Kala holds a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), trained in trauma-informed crisis intervention. Currently, Kala is employed as a therapist supporting adolescent youth with acute behavioral presentations in a residential treatment setting.
She views each young person as the inheritor of both pain and possibility. Kala’s passion is fiercely rooted in social justice and community healing. Her background includes providing clinical services to justice-involved youth and adults, those healing from substance use and gambling disorders, families impacted by child welfare systems, and individuals navigating the intergenerational wounds of marginalization.
She has served in roles across correctional, residential, and community-based settings. Guided by a holistic and spiritual lens, Kala supports individuals in reconnecting with their body’s inherent wisdom. Her clinical work extends far beyond talk therapy alone; she incorporates somatic practices, mindfulness, and expressive arts to help release trauma not just from the mind, but from the energy field where it has lived too long. Clinically, Kala draws from psychodynamic and family systems theories to explore the seeds of suffering and relational patterns passed from one generation to the next.
She integrates the tenets of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy—balancing meaning-making with practical tools that help clients use their minds in ways that lessensuffering. She supports those resurrecting their lives from the ashes of addiction, incarceration, and trauma, as well as those nearing the end of life and seeking meaning in their final chapters. Her approach is holistic, spiritual, and deeply embodied: She believes that beneath every survival strategy lies a story of resilience.
